Volunteer work
The plan is that the projects shall run for 12 months. If there are going to be cases when the volunteers really wish to come but they can stay for less than 9 months we can plan for that. The best period to start is mid August and forward.
The organization works together with the municipality division on Culture and Leisure to organize projects in all the youth centres. All youth centres are open for everyone and work with young people with ages from 13 years old to older . They focus on youth with fewer opportunities but are open for all youth.
Today there are 7 youth centres run by the municipality with people employed, but there are also some that are run by organizations as meeting centres with some support from the municipality. Most of the centres are placed in rural areas, where the youngsters are depended on public transportation to get to the city.
Some of the centres have a rich experience in hosting volunteers and other international projects. Every centre has a profile like sports, international work, working with disabled youth, cultural activities, graffiti, supporting young leaders, creating a musical, etc.
The organization will place 2 volunteers in each centre.
NBV will also a need 2 volunteers that shall work together with us in developing the international projects.
Then there are some organizations that would like to develop projects with volunteers. The organizations are a sports club, a rock music club, a historic one, a sobriety one, another one is working with former criminals and one is a local UN organization.
Cultural & free time
In Örnsköldsvik there are a lot of different organizations for leisure, depending on what you are interested in you can as example choose, sport, religious, music, stamp, art, health and cinema. There are also many clubs of rock, pop, classic. In the city, the youth centre- Sliperiet- also has a lot of different activities for young people.
Örnsköldsvik is a safe and pleasant area with a rich variety of leisure pursuits. If You enjoy being out in the countryside, you will find many good places of natural beauty here. A mixture of forests, hills and sea close to each other has created a dramatic and beautiful landscape. There are over 20 natural reserves and a National Park open to the general public. Örnsköldsvik is in the northern part of The High Coast district - a geographic area that was included on the UNESCO´s list of World Heritages in 2001.
The High Coast is Sweden´s only coastal area with cliffs - this unique geology being the main reason for the area becoming a part of the World Heritage. People say this is the place where the sea meets the mountains. No other part of Sweden´s coastline was pressed down by the ice so much during the last ice period, and when this pressure melted away, the land started to rise unusually fast. Today, land elevation continues at fast rate - 1 meter in 100 years.
Learning activities
Together we will give an introduction in EVS, about the Youth in Action Programme, Swedish language lessons, project management courses. We will also work a lot with the ,,learning by doing” method, and we will develop projects depending on the volunteers skills in a specific subject like dancing, singing, create graffiti.
Accomodation & food
Most of the volunteers will be placed into rented apartments, near the project place. Most lunches are planned to be at school restaurants during school time. Breakfast and dinner will be in their apartments and they will be responsible with buying and preparing the food by themselves. The volunteers will be receiving monthly allowances for food.
