Volunteer work
Regardless of his size and vicinity to a big industrial ,educational center like Craiova , the commune of Leu still faces economic challenges and for the children and youngsters here ,beside migrating to more developed region ,there are not so many others opportunitie.
The volunteers could work on:
- Developing a program of extracurricular activities on subjects that concern the youngsters the most: environment; sports; art&culture; health education,etc
- Language classes – to improve the level of English of the children from the community
- Intercultural activities like organizing intercultural evenings
- Organizing social campaigns to help the disadvantaged children and to give more visibility to the schools outside it’s area
- To organize campaigns to inform on the opportunities that the European programs bring to the youngsters in terms of education
The local NGO – Speranta Leu – could orientate and help the volunteers implement their activity.
The local primary school – Scoala Generala N.B. Locusteanu – has quite a big number of children and is equipped with 2 laboratories ( for Biology and Chemistry ) , a gym room ( in reconstruction ) and a room for informatics – with internet access.
Cultural & free time
The commune has two Cultural House , a library ( that contains almost 12 000 volumes ), exhibition room , festivity room , stage ,meeting room .
The Day center deals with approximately 20 local fewer opportunity children in issues like better integration & personal counseling .A play area , a documentation & internet room and food are provided for the children.
The community has his own football team – Asociatia Sportiva Leu – that plays in the 4th divison.
Learning activities
On arrival, the volunteers will enter in a Capacity Building programme for minimum 7 days and maximum 10 days. During the Capacity Building programme they will receive trainings to build their competences on animation, conflict management, project management, group dynamics, community youth development.
They will also be provided with Romanian language classes to have a minimum of language skills that will help them to carry out better their activities and to cope with the community.
The organization will make partnerships with local stakeholders –schools or local administration- that will inform the volunteers on the needs and opportunities of the community, on the local customs and traditions, etc.
The volunteers will experience working and living in a rural area which doesn’t offer them the same opportunities in terms of places for leisure, education, living conditions.
Accomodation & food
Through the partnerships that ARDR will make with some local stakeholders, they will help the organization to ensure accommodation inside the commune, in a hosting family.
The minimum conditions of living will be ensured: a room for the volunteer, access to a kitchen, access to a bathroom with running water.
The volunteers will receive a monthly allowance for food and they will be responsible for buying and preparing their food.

Every project receives assistance from the technical team composed from:
A project manager – is responsible of the entire coordination of the project;
project assistant- has complementary tasks to the project manager;
mentor –a person that belongs to the community and that will help the volunteers to integrate easier
financial manager- responsible for the financial administration of the project;
language tutor – delivers language classes to the volunteers;
councilor - offers counseling to the staff of the EVS project and monitors and evaluates the EVS project. |
