Volunteer work
Gighera is not a very rich community but surely it is a multi-cultural one . A lot of Gighera’s youngsters choose to leave their birthplaces and work in countries like Spain and Italy up to two or three years. Most of them return home and encourage this migration phenomenon. The people here are used to deal with foreigners and most of them can fluently speak Italian or Spanish .
The only institutions that deliver educational services for children are the schools. There is no active NGO in the community and the main institution responsible for providing cultural activities ,the Cultural House , is in a process of rebuilding that should be ended next year ,so , at least for now , is also inactive.
The community has 3 primary schools and 3 kindergartens but the education provided here, like in most of Romanian villages , is based on a traditional ,formal-based ,old process
The volunteers could work on:
- Developing a program of extracurricular activities on subjects that concern the youngsters the most: environment; sports; art&culture; health education, etc
- Language classes – to improve the English level of the children from the community
- Intercultural activities like organizing intercultural evenings
- Organizing social campaigns to help the disadvantaged children and to give more visibility to the schools outside it’s area
To organize campaigns to inform on the opportunities that the European programs bring to the youngsters in terms of education
Cultural & free time
Every Friday , a local fair I is organized where people gather to sell or to buy animals or other local products .
Also , in august ,each year ,an important regional festival - ,,IN PADURE LA ZAVAL’’ – takes place to illustrate and to preserve the local traditions and folklore.
A part of the region is reserved for the ,,Holyday Village of Zaval ‘’ , a group of well arranged touristic pensions and entertainment facilities .
Each may ,the locals organize the Peony Festival ,a spring celebration with a lot of local flavors to it.
Learning activities
On arrival, the volunteers will enter in a Capacity Building programme for minimum 7 days and maximum 10 days. During the Capacity Building programme they will receive trainings to build their competences on animation, conflict management, project management, group dynamics, community youth development.
They will also be provided with Romanian language classes to have a minimum of language skills that will help them to carry out better their activities and to cope with the community.
The organization will make partnerships with local stakeholders –schools or local administration- that will inform the volunteers on the needs and opportunities of the community, on the local customs and traditions, etc.
The volunteers will experience working and living in a rural area which doesn’t offer them the same opportunities in terms of places for leisure, education, living conditions.
Accomodation & food
Through the partnerships that ARDR will make with some local stakeholders, they will help the organization to ensure accommodation inside the commune, in a hosting family. It is likely though that the volunteers will be accommodated in small apartments from the area since the commune is located close to the town.
The minimum conditions of living will be ensured: a room for the volunteer, access to a kitchen, access to a bathroom with running water.
The volunteers will receive a monthly allowance for food and they will be responsible for buying and preparing their food.
