Volunteer work
The volunteer will be permanently working with other young volunteers of OAJNU or related institutions. The working places will vary. A permanent place will be the office of OAJNU, in the downtown area of Buenos Aires; then in private or public schools of residential areas or from the suburban areas.
The volunteer’s intervention will generally be directed to 14 – 25 young people of public and private schools of the city and the province of Buenos Aires. All that integrating the team work of the social projects of OAJNU.
They will have the chance to work on:
- Teach high school students at school about of human rights, youth involvement, democracy and social projects. Project: ,,Citizenship of Childhood”.
- Help and monitor the students in the process of building and executing their projects
- Train Model United Nations participants on United Nations System, represent their countries through negotiations and topics of global agenda.
- Fully work during the development of the project ,,International Model United Nation” in Buenos Aires and others cities of Argentina where OAJNU does this project.
- Work into the international campaign ,,Stand Up Against Poverty”.
- Work into the Short Film Competition to promote The Millennium Development Goals.
- Fully work during the Model United Nation for university students in Buenos Aires.
- Collaborate in institutional presentations and fundraising activities to obtain external support for the projects in which the volunteer works.
- Write a Memory of each one’s working and living experience the project of OAJNU in Argentina.
- Participate in projects in which OAJNU collaborates with other civil society institutions
The partners that will work with OAJNU and will support the volunteers activities are the following:

Cultural & free time
The city offers traditional tours and secret places. The Colón Theatre and small experimental theaters. Old book stores and new cultural centers. More than one hundred museums. Handcraft fairs and modern shopping malls. Historic cafés, tango, milonga, parks and bars to enjoy the first and last drink of the night.
The most visited destinations in the beautiful city include the San Telmo Market, La Boca neighborhood, Costanera Sur, the center of town with the obelisk and the Tigre delta, a few kilometers away from the urban center.
The tours and excursions that denote the strong cosmopolitan spirit of Buenos Aires are Caminito, Recoleta, Boca`s Stadium, Matador’s Market, the Botanic Garden, the Zoo, the Japanese Garden and Holy Land, the first religious theme parks in the world.
Other sites of remarkable cultural and historical interest are the Cabildo, the Government House, the Cathedral, the Town Hall, the Obelisk, the Colón Theater, la Manzana de las Luces (Block of the Lights) and the Planetarium, an emblematic site in the memory of all children in Buenos Aires.
In the evenings, “the city that never sleeps” is open to concerts, shows, theaters, cinemas, casinos, discos, coffee-shops and pubs that make visitors stay up late hours.
For all these reasons, Buenos Aires opens up to a wide range of entertainment options.
Learning activities
The learning activities will consist of initial trainings :
- 2 months of intensive course of Spanish.
- 1 week of training about OAJNU and the way it works.
- A pack of materials with information, plannings, videos, photograph of the projects will be given to the volunteer.
- 1 month of intensive training related to the tasks the volunteer will be in charge of.
- The volunteer will also receive a manual explaining what the main tasks are in the projects he/she will work.
Accomodation & food
The volunteers will live in the city of Buenos Aires with a hosting family in a residential area or in a flat with other volunteers in the downtown area.
The expenses for food are going to be entirely covered. The hosting family will provide the volunteers breakfast, lunch and dinner. However, lunch or dinner out of his/her house will be covered if it is motivated on their job responsibilities. In case the volunteers will live in a flat, they will receive a monthly allowance for food. The volunteers will also receive “pocket money” of 75 Euros for their personal needs.
Transport - Buenos Aires is a city easy to access. The cost of the transport from the volunteers country to Buenos Aires will be covered. The project will also cover daily transportation inside the city or travels to other cities in the sphere of the volunteering work in OAJNU.
Multiple means of transport allow you to travel around the city: five lines of subtes (subway), more than one hundred lines of colectivos (buses) and interurban railways (or trains). Taxis and remises are very common means of transport because they are safer and more economical than in other cities.
The bus (colectivo) is a fast and inexpensive means of transport to travel over the Capital. There are more than 180 lines going through the city and providing connection with all districts in the Greater Buenos Aires. The service is available at regular intervals.
Office - It is common in families of residential areas to have access to internet. However, the volunteer will be able to use internet in the Office of OAJNU.
Visa - OAJNU will help the volunteer to get an annual Visa for Argentina.

OAJNU is a strong and prestigious institution that has more than 40 members in Buenos Aires, all of them young volunteers with a strong social commitment and opened to share their experiences with foreign volunteers.
In this environment the officer of human resources of the Executive Committee in OAJNU-Buenos Aires will be the responsible for all the activities of the volunteers and will name a mentor to help, support and monitor the volunteer. The mentor will encourage him/her to successfully develop their daily activities and will help him/her in their insertion in the normal life of the city of Buenos Aires. The mentor will also assist the volunteer in any problem he/she has during the period of the project.
The mentor will organize a monthly meeting with volunteers to analyze and evaluate the evolution of the volunteer and his/her satisfaction with OAJNU.
