Volunteer work
The high school from Amarastii de Jos has already some on-going projects with ecological theme :Eco-caravana promotorilor de mediu- The Caravan of environmental promoters ( in partnership the high school G.S. Nenitescu) ,on health & prevention : Sanatatea noastra, prioritate suprema ( Our health ,supreme priority ) in partnership with the local medical settlement , an interesting partnership with a regional newspaper – Editia Speciala ,suggestively called Sase!Vine presa. – Look out for the press!.
The volunteers can start from here or they can implement their own activity .The high school has an opened attitude toward non –formal education and the staff here knows how to valorize the work with youngsters .
The village of Ocolna in Amarastii de Jos provides shelter for an extremely poor Roma population ( 1200 people ) that make an income only from bricks manual fabrication .Their youngsters get married at really young ages and most of them are really poorly educated .Maybe this could represent an opportunity for an active volunteer to get involved in.
Cultural & free time
The educational institution have established a partnership with the local museum Vatra Satului - The heart of the village that activates to preserve and to promote the true values and traditions of the people from Amarastii de Jos.
The high school is also fully equipped for any kind of activity that a volunteer will suggest : 5 laboratories ( physics , chemistry ,biology and 2 for informatics with new computers and internet access ) , 2 sport fields , 3 in-door spaces for sport related activities ,2 libraries with 13 000 books and a Center for research and documentation .
The Festival of the Rose is very know regionally and represent the traditional celebration of the community.
Learning activities
On arrival, the volunteers will enter in a Capacity Building programme for minimum 7 days and maximum 10 days. During the Capacity Building programme they will receive trainings to build their competences on animation, conflict management, project management, group dynamics, community youth development.
They will also be provided with Romanian language classes to have a minimum of language skills that will help them to carry out better their activities and to cope with the community.
The organization will make partnerships with local stakeholders –schools or local administration- that will inform the volunteers on the needs and opportunities of the community, on the local customs and traditions, etc.
The volunteers will experience working and living in a rural area which doesn’t offer them the same opportunities in terms of places for leisure, education, living conditions.
Accomodation & food
Through the partnerships that ARDR will make with some local stakeholders, they will help the organization to ensure accommodation inside the commune, in a hosting family. It is likely though that the volunteers will be accommodated in small apartments from the area since the commune is located close to the town.
The minimum conditions of living will be ensured: a room for the volunteer, access to a kitchen, access to a bathroom with running water.
The volunteers will receive a monthly allowance for food and they will be responsible for buying and preparing their food.
